The Layers

This poem bears reading, and reading again. And again.  It fills me up, anchors me to the importance of reflecting on who I am, who I want to be. How I will be remembered.  I applaud Stanley Kunitz and am glad he wrote it. He reaches out to me, beyond time and location.

thanks for reading! it isn’t chilling to me, but that’s the marvel of reading poetry. The poem leaves the poet, and becomes it’s own entity, to be met and challenged by different readers. I am melancholic by nature, and for me, Stanley Kunitz is recalling his own life, seeing both good and bad, and recognizing that he is in the unknown. Life is mystery. Unknowable and magnificent, sad , brave, fierce, lonely, wonderful. All these , and more.
